We’ll let our San Antonio native and buyer’s specialist, Erin Gonzales, share the wonders of the Hill Country with y’all this summer…

First up – Gruene, TX

Oh, but the catch is, if you take one of our sweet little road trips, you’ve got to pay it forward to the next military family by posting about it below. Fair? We thought so. Have a safe trip!

Gruene TX

GO GREUNE! Just a short 40 minute drive outside the city in the Texas Hill Country is home of the Gruene Historic District. The designated historic town of Texas, Gruene (pronounced like the color “green”) provides a rare experience mix of old-world charm and modern amenities. As their famous motto states,  “gently resisting change since 1857,” its historic roots have made this southern gem a must-see tourist hot spot.  This quaint little town of Gruene, TX is part of what makes New Braunfels an ideal location for the whole family to have fun and play.

Kick off your boots in the oldest and most famous dance hall in Texas, Gruene Hall. Built in 1878, this honky-tonk dance hall has hosted many celebrities over the years including Country Music Legends, George Strait and Willie Nelson. The Hall continues its tradition providing live music everyday. Check out their upcoming shows for more legendary and eclectic talent.

Deep in the Heart of Texas… – Is our stomachs! Nestled along the banks of the Guadalupe River surrounded by the Oak Trees just as old , The Gristmill is the place for a good Southern Texas meal and scenic views. The site of the old cotton gin offers over 30 different entrees on the menu featuring Texas’ finest beef, sandwiches, chicken fried steak and burgers. But the best entrees are on their “secret” menu, so be sure to ask (and tip) your server!

Tubing on the river will sure to be the most favored activity of the summer. After working up a good ole’ Texas sweat take a nice cool down on the banks of the Guadalupe River. Sit on a desk, swim, fish, or grab a tube at Rockin R or just relax on the banks for a nice cool down and bask in the Texas sun.

Shop for treasures and collectibles down Main Street beginning at the Gruene Antique Store. Recorded as a Texas Historic Landmark, this Antique Shop is a beloved Texas gem. Continue down Main Street to follow and visit GAC’s neighbor shop, The Black Swan Antiques and many more!

Old Gruene Market Days occurs first full 3rd weekend of each month featuring local artists with a variety of handcrafted items, clothing, and foods.

Wind down your trip and head over to to the Grapevine’s outdoor garden and enjoy a complimentary wine tasting. Grapevine is a wine tasting room featuring New World wines and one of the largest selections of Texas wines available. Relax with your favorite wine on our scenic front porch or in our outdoor garden and patio.
